Rohit Sharma taking retirement from all formats? Indian Team captain says…

Indian Team captain Rohit Sharma’s retirement announcement after India’s victory in the T20 World Cup has fuelled speculation about his retirement from all formats. The Indian skipper on Sunday cleared the air and said he is not planning to take retirement from all formats soon.

“I just said it. I don’t do that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while,” said Rohit at an event on Sunday while rejecting the rumours of his overall retirement. Team India captain Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, announced his retirement from T20 International cricket format after India’s spectacular victory in the tournament last month.

Rohit Sharma’s response to his retirement plans was anticipated as Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, announced Rohit Sharma as the captain for Team India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He will also continue his captaincy through the WTC campaign.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement announcement from T20 International shocked their fans, who wished for their continued presence in the format. Team India ended the country’s 17-year wait to bring back T20 World Cup trophy back to home.

After Team India’s victory in T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from the format while receiving his Player of the Match award in the final, whereas Rohit Sharma announced his retirement during the post-match press conference. Ravindra Jadeja gave information about his retirement on social media next day after the match.

Rohit has been on a break since the title win in the West Indies and is set to miss the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka later this month, which includes three ODIs. Rohit Sharma left T20 Internationals with 4231 runs from 159 matches. During his game in this format, Rohit Sharma has crossed five centuries and 32 half-centuries.
